Lamia et Sororitas

Together, they take those stories back

Lamia et Sororitas are an Italian act from Napoli: theatrical, elegant and entirely unwilling to let men decide the meaning of women’s lives.

At the centre is Lamia — poised, commanding and emotionally exacting, singing as though every word has already survived fire before it reaches the microphone. Beside her stand the Sororitas: a sisterhood of voices who answer, reinforce and deepen what Lamia sings.

The name matters.

In mythology, Lamia became the monstrous woman: seductress, devourer, baby-eater. But stories like hers were written and repeated largely through male voices, and Lamia et Sororitas begin from a simple refusal — men do not get to provide the final narrative for women they fear, desire, condemn or fail to understand.

That refusal runs through everything they do.

Their songs explore betrayal, deviance, shame, desire, wounded pride and female endurance, but never from the position of women waiting to be judged. They are sung from inside the experience itself.

If a woman is called dangerous, Lamia wants to know who called her dangerous, and why.

If she is called immoral, difficult, excessive or monstrous, the Sororitas ask whose version of events created that judgement in the first place.

Their identity is also deeply Neapolitan.

Milan may be celebrated internationally for fashion, polish and refinement, but Lamia carries glamour somewhere else entirely. She roots it in Napoli — in a harder, working-class city shaped by labour, contradiction, noise, beauty, pride and survival.

The gowns, the theatre and the elegance are not an escape from those roots.

They come from them.

That combination was what drew Difraxity to Lamia et Sororitas: the refusal to separate beauty from toughness, femininity from power, or style from class.

Difraxity recognised in Lamia an artist prepared to sing openly about women labelled deviant and to ask who had the authority to label them in the first place. Her songs do not allow men to dictate the meaning of love, betrayal, sexuality, motherhood, shame or desire.

And Lamia is never alone.

The Sororitas stand beside her at the microphone — a visible sisterhood, harmonising not just with her voice but with the principle behind it. They represent the women whose stories have been rewritten, diminished or told for them.

Together, they take those stories back.

Lamia et Sororitas: born in Napoli, dressed for the theatre, and unwilling to let anybody else write the ending.

A constructed world.
Real music.
